SPRING
Nicoline Heemskerk
Painter of the Bulb Region
Since her childhood, Nicoline Heemskerk has been drawing and painting the world around her and she never stopped. After studying at the Wackers Academy in Amsterdam (1999), over the years she developed her own style of painting with vibrant colours and a quick brushstroke. Besides working as an illustrator, designer and portraitist, her passion for flowers and especially the tulip in all its beauty grew.
Early in spring, Nicoline cycles through the Bulb Region with bags full of brushes, paint, a canvas and easel to paint flowering bulb fields outdoors in the open air -en plein air-. This landscape painting focuses on playing with natural light, colour and movement.
In her studio, Nicoline creates still life’s of fresh flowers in a vase. After establishing the right composition and lighting, the flowers are painted as true to nature as possible. Through her use of colour, shadow and light are rendered, creating depth in the work.
